Governance

 Board Members

The governing body of PSRH is elected at the Society’s Biennial General Meeting held every two years.
The BGM in Suva during the 2015 conference elected a new Board comprised of:

Kathy-Gapirongo

Kathy Gapirongo

Kathleen Gapirongo is currently the Program Manager for the Reproductive and Child Health/ Nutrition Unit at the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in Solomon Islands. She holds a bachelors degree in Midwifery from the Flinders University of Adelaide, South Australia. She has been working as a community nurse in the urban nursing services for 12 years with more interest in family planning and maternal health. Later after completing studies in Midwifery, she became a midwifery educator, coordinating the Midwifery Diploma Program in the Solomon Islands for 10years then later moved on into the Reproductive Health Unit where she is currently coordinating reproductive health programs specializing in the area of Maternal health including family planning. She was elected July 2015 as the President of the Pacific Society for Reproductive Health.

Alec Ekeroma

Alec Ekeroma is the immediate past president of the Pacific Society for Reproductive Health 2011-2015. He is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Pacific Women’s Health Research Unit at the University of Auckland. He is a senior consultant in O&G at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland. He is completing a Ph.D. into building research capacity in the Pacific Islands. Alec was the Chair of the NZ Committee of RANZCOG and has been on the Council of both RANZCOG and AOFOG. He was the President of the Pacific Medical Association and has been the founder and on governance boards of some Pacific primary health care organisations in Auckland NZ. He has also been on various national health committees of the Ministry of Health.

Kara-Okesene

Karaponi Okesene-Gafa

Kara Okesene-Gafa is an obstetrician-gynaecologist at Middlemore Hospital and Senior Lecturer Department of O&G, South Auckland Clinical School, University of Auckland.

Lead clinician for Diabetes in pregnancy services Counties Manukau Health. Research interests are diabetes in pregnancy, obesity and gestational weight gain, and their impact on health of mothers and babies.

Paula Puawe

Paula Puawe ( RN,RM,BN,DipM,MIPH,MHAd) has been the course coordinator for the Bachelor of Midwifery program at the University of Goroka, PNG since 2012. She has a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New England, NSW, a Diploma in Midwifery from the University of PNG, and has completed a Master of International Public Health from Sydney University and a Master of Health Administration from Curtin University. She has recently conducted research on obstetric referral to hospital and is actively involved in the Maternal and Child Health Initiative in PNG, in collaboration with the University of Technology, Sydney. She is a member of the PNG Midwifery Society.and babies.

Moape-Bavou

Moape Bavou, MMED Obs & Gynae (FNU).

Moape Bavou is a junior consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. He is an associate member of the RANZCOG.

Aliote Galuvakadua

BHSc (Central Queensland Univ), PG Cert Health Management (FSM).

Aliote Galuvakadua is the PSRH Vice-President, Midwifery. She has been on the Board of PSRH for four years prior to her recent appointment. She has been a Matron at the Colonial Women’s Memorial Hospital, Suva, and has been the President of the Fiji Midwives Society since 2009.
