Midwife Kathy Gapirongo, PSRH President, was a guest speaker at a Send Hope Not Flowers Charity function hosted by the Miller Harris Lawyers in Cairns on the 27th October.
Melissa Nielsen, a partner of the law firm confirmed: “This was the fourth annual charity luncheon for Send Hope Not Flowers hosted by Miller Harris Lawyers. The sell-out event was a huge success, hosting 340 people and raising over $22,000.00. Over the four years running the event, our firm has raised more than $80,000.00 for the charity”.
“Our guest speaker at the event was Ms Kathleen Gapriongo, the President of Pacific Society for Reproductive Health, who addressed the crowd on the support needed in the Pacific to reduce the maternal mortality rates”.
“As part of the event, Miller Harris Lawyers also ran a soap drive collecting cakes of soap, a much needed commodity in the maternity ward at Port Moresby Hospital, which has been without any soap for the last 9 months. Thousands of cakes of soap were kindly donated by the Cairns community and will be transported to PNG thanks to Air Niugini to help meet this urgent need.”
PSRH is thankful for the opportunity to contribute to this fundraising event as PSRH has received assistance from Send Hope on several occasions.
