The Pacific Society for Reproductive Health Charitable Trust received Au$30,000 from Send Hope Not Flowers (HNF) charity of Australia. The co-founder of SHNF, Emma McDonald, in handing over the funds congratulated PSRH in initiating projects and delivering programmes that benefit women and children in the Pacific Islands. “We are, through the generosity of Australian women and their families, happy to assist PSRH by funding these initiatives,” said Ms McDonald.  In accepting the funds, on behalf of PSRH, Dr Alec Ekeroma thanked SHNF for the generous donation. “We could not fulfill our Society’s aims without the kind donation of organisations such as SHNF,” replied Dr Ekeroma. SHNF funded the printing and dissemination of the Pacific Emergency Maternal and Neonatal Training Manual last year and purchased emergency kits for the National Referral Hospital in Honiara, Solomon Islads.

The recent funds will be used to deliver the following projects:

  1. Build a room for student midwives at the University of Goroka, PNG.(Paula Puawe)
  2. Gestational Diabetes research in American Samoa (Bethel Muasau-Howard)
  3. Specialist medical workforce mapping in the Pacific (Alec Ekeroma)

The PSRH has a monitoring and evaluation framework which will ensure the successful completion of the above projects.
